This is something I’ve been thinking about lately.. I know Charlotte is technically in the South, and if you’ve ever watched a show like “Southern Charm” on Bravo, you know that the South can have a certain traditions and clichés that come with the territory.. but, is Charlotte really that southern of a city? And do we all follow in line with our southern heritage?
I am born and raised in Charlotte, and growing up somewhere subconsciously chose not to have a southern accent. My husband, also born and raised right here in the Queen City sounds like he could have just jumped off the pick up truck after a night of drinking moonshine and tipping cows!
Now, my life took on some adventures which led me to living in cities like Taos New Mexico, and Chicago IL before making my way back to my old hometown over 10 years ago.. during that time I made the permanent choice of getting some rather large tattoos.. don’t get me wrong, I don’t have a single regret for my decision, they are each very meaningful and powerful to me.. but it does get me thinking.. Are tattoos still considered taboo in the south? My hairdresser is covered, I mean covered, neck to knuckles, my accountant seems like the type that might have one hiding under her dress pant, my daughter’s school teacher has a really cool modern one on the inside of her wrist.. so I’d have to venture a guess and say it’s becoming more commonplace now right? More times than not, if we were to meet in a professional setting, you’d never know I had them. I still have that little voice in my head saying “it’s not proper”, “they won’t take you seriously”..
So I’m curious, if you were meeting two professionals, with the same educational background, same level of expertise, and same level of services.. would a few tattoos be too taboo?
